Comparison between biogeographical analysis with different levels of fossil inclusion. A) results of DEC+j model when fossil taxa are incorporated as separate branches (full results are shown in Fig. S9); B) the DEC results of (A); C) results of DEC+j model when outgroup fossil taxa are incorporated into the ranges of the extant clades; D) the DEC+j model results when fossil taxa are allowed in areas in which they have not been found to account for an incomplete fossil record as indicated by a question mark in the coloured range square; and E) the DEC+j model results in which no fossil taxa are incorporated into the analysis. The AIC model selection results are below their respective trees, as A and B are from the same analysis, they share one model selection table.
