posted on 2017-12-11, 06:31 authored by Jan RohozinskiAlignment of the peptide sequence encoded by the African elephant and aardvark UTP14 retrogenes demonstrates that these two retrogenes have accumulated a large number of amino acid substitutions and several in frame deletions since these two species diverged from a common ancestor over the 50 million years ago. In spite of these changes the UTP14 retrogenes in both species constitute intact open reading frames that can encode functional proteins.
