High-speed movie showing role of buckling in development of sinuous flow. Aluminum foil is bonded to a copper substrate and is cut using a sharp wedge. Streaklines from PIV analysis highlight the deformation of the foil. Repeated buckling leading to fold formation is clearly visible.
