Three leaves of each of six plants were infiltrated with <i>P. syringae</i> pv. maculicola M4 at 107 cfu/ml in 10 mM MgCl2, with 10 mM MgCl2, or left untreated. For <i>A. thaliana</i>, <i>Psm</i> was inoculated instead at 105 cfu/ml. After 1, 2, or 6 h, leaves were excised and stained overnight in 0.01% (w/v) NBT solution before bleaching and image analysis. ANOVAs were used to test for significant differences in percentage staining between different inoculation treatments at each zinc concentration and for <i>Arabidopsis</i>. Bonferroni simultaneous comparisons were carried out where significance was found (α = 0.05); means which are not significantly different are marked with the same letter. Results shown here represent the mean of two independent experiments. Error bars indicate SE.
